Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio Texas
530 am CST Fri Nov 22 2019

Aviation...
IFR ceilings have settled into the San Antonio sites with MVFR at aus
and drt. These restrictions are expected through the early afternoon
hours as a cold front moves through the area. There will be some
possible light rain with the front this morning, but overall rain
amounts are expected to be light and no major impacts are expected at
the area airports this morning. North winds behind the front will be
around 15 knots with slightly higher gusts. Wind speeds will weaken
by later this afternoon.

Previous discussion... /issued 253 am CST Fri Nov 22 2019/

Short term (today through saturday)...
the anticipated cold front is moving across the northern part of Val
Verde and Edwards counties based on surface observations and Doppler
radar trends. The boundary will continue to push to the southeast and
over the rest of south central Texas through late this morning or early
this afternoon.

Hires models are in good agreement with the passage of the frontal
boundary across the rest of the area with the boundary/wind shift
taking place from 4 am to 6 am across the rest of The Hill Country
and the Escarpment, 6 am to 8 am along Interstate 35, and 8 am to 11
am over the southern part (including the northern portion of the
coastal plains) of the area.

Best chances for rain will be along the frontal boundary as it pushes
to the southeast with dry weather conditions expected in its wake.
Since the cold front is pushing across the area early this Friday
morning with clouds staying in place through early this afternoon,
high temperatures have been adjusted to the cool side of things.
Expect highs in the lower to mid 60s across The Hill Country and
parts of the I-35 corridor to 70s along and south of Highway 90.
Rainfall accumulations expected to be minimal to limited or one
tenth of an inch or less.

Dry and cool weather conditions are expected tonight into Saturday.

Long term (saturday night through thursday)...
a dry and pleasant weekend is in store with partly cloudy to sunny
skies and highs in the 70s for the most locations. Monday of next
week look dry with rain chances returning on Tuesday to the far east
portion of the area as a cold front moves over the region. More rain
chances opportunities are expected by mid week into Thursday as
several upper level short waves in the southwesterly flow aloft move
over the area.
