Morning update:
as snow continues in portions of northeastern Montana, pop grids
were updated to reflect the lingering of snow going into North
Dakota. Snow is dissipating in Phillips and valley counties, so
winter weather advisories were allowed to expire. Montana
Department of Transportation is reporting severe driving
conditions near Scobey. Snow from Scobey to Wolf Point to central
McCone County is continuing to progress east along US-2. The
Winter Weather Advisory for Roosevelt and Richland counties and
the Winter Storm Warning for Daniels and Sheridan are extended
until later this morning. Roads are slippery across eastern Montana and
temperatures are not expected to rise much this afternoon.
Reports of freezing drizzle and light rain with temperatures below
freezing has led to a Winter Weather Advisory for the rest of
this morning in Dawson, prairie, and Wibaux counties.

Previous discussion:
a winter storm is bringing snow to the northern half of NE Montana
early this morning. The snow will continue into the daylight hours
of this morning before it diminishes. Will keep winter weather
advisories and winter storm warnings in effect in the north for
now. They currently expire at 8 am and it looks like the snow will
be diminishing around that time.

A chance of light snow or mixed precip will remain possible into
this afternoon as an upper trough moves through the forecast area.
It will keep temperatures colder than they have been recently with
highs only in the 20s and 30s.

High pressure moves into the area tonight with dry weather. It is
uncertain how quickly the low clouds will clear overnight which
will affect how cold it will be. At this point, it looks like lows
will be in the teens in most areas but may end up being colder if
skies clear early.

An upper ridge will move into Montana on Thursday and Friday with
dry and warmer weather. A dry cold front Friday night will be
followed by another ridge on Saturday.

Models are pointing towards an upper trough moving in early next
week and remaining over the area most of next week with colder
temperatures and chances for snow at times. Forrester
