Watches & Warnings

Special Statement
Issued: 4:24 PM AKDT Sep. 21, 2019 – National Weather Service

... .freezing temperatures expected tonight across portions of
southcentral Alaska...

A cooler air mass moving into southcentral from the west along
with drier conditions and gradually clearing skies will allow
temperatures to drop to near or below freezing across portions
of southcentral Alaska tonight. While a few isolated locations
have already reached the freezing mark (mostly during clear nights
back in late august), expect a much larger area will observe
temperatures in the upper 20s to mid 30s tonight into early
Sunday morning.

Areas where sub-freezing temperatures are most likely tonight
include: the southern Susitna Valley (south of Talkeetna including
Willow and houston), the western Matanuska Valley (west of
Wasilla, including Meadow Lakes and big lake), portions of east
Anchorage (near Campbell Creek science center) and The Eagle River
Valley, and portions of the western Kenai Peninsula (including
Kenai, Soldotna, and sterling).

People living in these areas may want to take action to protect
outdoor plants.

Cloud cover and a somewhat warmer air mass returning Sunday will
keep temperatures safely above the freezing mark Sunday night.
