The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a heat
advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM CDT
this evening. A heat advisory has also been issued from 1 PM to
9 PM CDT Tuesday.
* Event... hot and humid conditions will be noted today and
* Areas affected... much of Arkansas except the Ozark mountains of
* Temperature... highs will be in the 90s, with heat index values
from 100 to 110 degrees.
* Impacts... hot weather will increase the risk of heat related
illness, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The very
Young, the elderly, and those without access to air
conditioning will be especially vulnerable.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. If
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink
plenty of water.
If you must be outdoors, the occupational safety and health
administration recommends taking frequent rest breaks in shaded
or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be
moved to a cool and shaded location. If heat stroke is suspected,
call 9 1 1.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
