Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 3:14 PM EST Dec. 15, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday
morning...

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of east central Kentucky, northeast
Kentucky, south central Kentucky, and southeast Kentucky,
including the following areas, in east central Kentucky, Bath,
Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Menifee, Montgomery, Powell, and
Rowan. In northeast Kentucky, Johnson and Martin. In south
central Kentucky, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle,
Wayne, and Whitley. In southeast Kentucky, Bell, Breathitt,
Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie,
Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe.

* From Monday morning through Tuesday morning

* 1 to 3 inches of rain will be possible.

* This could result in flooded streams and creeks, especially in
low lying areas. The corridor of heaviest rainfall looks to
occur somewhere along a line from Paintsville to Campton to
Mount Vernon. Isolated flash flooding will be possible within
this corridor. Additionally, as runoff makes its way to larger
rivers, minor flooding along portions of the Kentucky and Red
River basins will be possible later Monday night into Tuesday.
Significant rises will be possible within portions of the
Cumberland and Big Sandy river basins as well.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
