Hurricane Wilma...we went without power 12 days and no phone for 15 days. It was a very long 2 weeks. The outpatient surgery center where I work also had no power for 2 weeks so I didn't even have a job to go to.

Interesting blog - but how can you all remember these?
I don't remember but here are some "guesses"
Charley & Gaston (04) & Ophelia (05) - somewhere between 3 - 10 hours
Floyd - We didn't stay, but would have been without power for a couple of days.
Hugo - 5 days I think at my house. My job (school) was without power for over 3 weeks.
Gracie (I was young!) maybe 2 days. We had just moved into town. Our "beach" house didn't have power for 2 weeks. My brother was a newborn....used to hear my mom say thanks we weren't without power that long with a newborn.

Irene '99 - @ 12 hours
Frances '04 - 14 days
Jeanne '04 - 12 days
Wilma '05 - less than 24 hours (moved 25 minutes south - the old neighborhood lost power for a few days again after Wilma)

I think of the garden after the rain;
And hope to my heart comes singing,
"At morn the cherry-blooms will be white,
And the Easter bells be ringing!"

Hi Fran --

Another one just occurred to me -- Hazel in 1954 -- my handle isn't geezer for my good health -- I was living in Butler, PA (near Pittsburgh) when Hazel came through the state. The town flooded maybe four feet deep and power was out for a week.

Charley - 2 hours
Frances - 4 days (neighbor below was in NC in vacation)
Jeanne - never lost power (well maybe 10 minutes)
I LOVE my neighbor the FPL lineman!
(We're also on the main gridline, lucky for us!)

Hi Fran --

Two recent outages that I can recall

Floyd - 1999(?) - about six hours during the worst of the rain, spent the time bailing the sump by hand. Learned from that and installed a battery backup in our new house.

Isabel - 2003 - just long enough to have to reset all our clocks, but our next door neighbor was out for seven days. Ran a heavy duty extension from our house so he could run his refrigerator.

We commisurate (sic) up here about the lack of a good snow, but thru the worst I've seen, never lost power, except during a t-storm. Lost power more because of bad drivers, LOL, but again never more than a mere nusance. I've always said that we are blessed up here in SE PA. Extremes only happen rarely and we truely get to witness the best that the four seasons have to offer.

Charley = 5 Days
Frances = 5 Days
Jeanne = 2 Hours

Charley was a surprise and we weren't prepared but it was a new experience so not too bad. House was not that hot either.

Frances and we were miserable!!! Totally stressed out - partly because it took so long to get here and we knew what to expect.

Jeanne we were "over" the whole thing and took a nap for the 2 hours the power was out.

I lived in a fairly new house for hurricane seasons 2004 & 2005. This year I am a half mile from the beach and in an older building and will probably HAVE to evacuate. Don't know where I'm going yet but will have a plan in place when the time comes. (NOTE: I said "when" not if!)
