Snow Flurries tonight and tomorrow

By: tropicfreak, 10:24 PM GMT on January 24, 2007

There is a chance that we could see some flurries (slim chance for tonight) and a much better chance tomorrow and tomorrow night. There will be a light coating of accumulation but not during the day tomorrow because it will be 12 degrees above freezing. But on thurs night,it's supposed to get well below freezing(in the teens) so thats when we expect a little accumulations.A special weather statement has been issued as of 420pm

Still more snow?

By: tropicfreak, 2:45 PM GMT on January 22, 2007

As a result of yesterdays storm, just as I suspected we got an inch of ice. There were a few slippery spots on the roads especially on overpasses.I got caught in a traffic jam because there was an accident. I saw many cars covered with lots of snow and ice, which I assumed that they came from up north or west. Believe it or not we have another round of wintry weather coming wednesday night. This will be mostly snow and the overnight temperatures will be well below freezing, so some accumulations are possible but by thurs, it'll melt because the temps will be in the 40's.I'll continue tracking this system for further updates.

It's currently now doing freezing rain with snow. It started snowing at around 12 just as I expected. It didn't stick as much as I thought it would. I was supposed to get at around an inch of snow and ice. But no accumulations for snow. However, the ice is sticking pretty good to the road. So i expect the morning cummute to be a little slippery and 2 hour delays for schools and businesses. We are currently under a winter weather advisory so here's the advisory statement.

Here's the forecast for the rest of the day and tonight

This
Afternoon

Snow/Sleet

Hi 35F Tonight

Freezing
Rain
Lo 30F

Thats the forecast from NOAA

There's a special weather statement for allentown PA (this one's for phillies)

Statement as of 5:00 AM EST on January 21, 2007

A broad area of low pressure moving from the Southern Plains will
weaken late this afternoon and tonight as it tracks into the Ohio
Valley. As this occurs, a secondary low pressure system will form
over the Carolinas and move out to sea on Monday. There is a chance
that the combination of these systems will bring some light snow or
freezing drizzle to east central Pennsylvania and northern and
central New Jersey beginning this evening. Little if any
accumulation is expected at this time, but any freezing drizzle
could make overnight driving as well as the Monday morning commute
difficult if roads are left untreated.

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio all-hazards or your local
media. More data will become available later this morning and
afternoon. If at that time it appears there is a greater likelihood
of ice accretion, advisories will be issued.

Next round of wintry mix & snow.

By: tropicfreak, 9:24 PM GMT on January 19, 2007

Ok The first snowfall yesturday was very nice. It didn't stick to the ground about 1" as I expected it to. But it did stick to my front porch and completely covered the picnic tables. The first snow shower I yelled IT'S SNOWING!!!!!! ( that was around 8:30am) Sure the whole nieghborhood could hear me! On my way to work there was a second snow shower and boy was it comin down!:D The rest of the morning it snowed lightly then sleeted next by 3pm it changed to snow.Anyway thats not it. There's more. The next system could impact the mid-atlantic and the northern part of the SE(NC,TN)The bulk of the system should get me pretty big time. My bones are telling me that we're going to get some pretty bad weather. The bulk of the system will be mostly in VA but in some northern parts of NC and MD and WV. I think people who live north of highway 460 should get 4-5" of snow and 1" of ice. It should start out as sleet sunday afternoon then change to snow and the mix should continue through sunday overnight but it'll be mostly snow. The mix and snow will finish late mon morning.

P.S I wasn't on my way to work.i meant work as school.

SNOW IN THE FORECAST!!!!!!!!!!

By: tropicfreak, 10:01 PM GMT on January 17, 2007

FINALLY, a first snowfall! Every single weather site,(including my local news station) calls for snow. Tomorrow the forecast will be rainy but it'll start out as sleet and wet snow for an hour. there will be no problems as far as driving as concerned. The temperature will be a tad above freezing about a inch of snow on the ground. Then it'll change to rain. On sunday we're supposed to get rain BUT,by the evening it'll change to snow. Plus the temps will be in the 20's so I expect minor problems on the roads and the accumulations will be 4-5"! Who thinks denver had enough snow???!!!!!!! Who thinks it's the southeast's turn to get winter weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

VA snowfreak

Hopefully Sunday's snow will look like this.

UPDATE

By: tropicfreak, 10:18 PM GMT on January 15, 2007

I now have the new info on the winter storm. Ice is a primary threat and snow will play the main role throughout this storm. Ice threats extend from Mississippi to VA and the snow threats are the same as well. The accumulations for ice from what I'm looking at is 0.5"-1.0" of ice.The snow accumulations are still 8-14". Allybama, auburn, charlestonlady, midatlantic, and pumps(including me) will see some winter weather for our first snowstorm of the season and make that our first snowfall and ice storm.Do y'all remember the Pres day storm we got 4"of snow. On Jan 25 2000 I got dumped under a foot of snow
People were off from work and school for 2 weeks! It was known as the "Blizzard of 2000". In 1998 we got another blizzard which we got about the same amount of snow as in the blizzard of 2000. In 1996 there was another blizzard only bigger! We got 15" of fresh snow. Lots of snow covered up my deck! In 1993 there was a huge winter storm. The storm streched up from FL to Maine. Florida obviously, got rain and Alabama,GA,SC,NC,VA,WV,MD,Delaware,PA,NJ,NY,CT,RI,MA,VT,NH, and ME got tons and tons of snow. I got 16" from that storm.

Next update when the storm hits.

Two big winter storms 15-23 look more threatening

By: tropicfreak, 9:53 PM GMT on January 12, 2007

Those two big winter storms I told you about from Jan 15-23 looks more threatening which means that it has strengthened. Hopefully it'll be our 1st blizzard in 7 years. I assume for those of you that are within the white line(including me) the accumulations have increased a little. 8-14 inches is my guess since it looks more threatening. I can't wait! Not only that this is my first snowfall for the winter but it'll also might be the first snowfall in years! (like I said) UPDATE ON THE BIG SNOWSTORM

Big winter storm coming up

By: tropicfreak, 10:45 PM GMT on January 08, 2007

I'm excited! On the extended forecast on SCA says that much of the southeast could get a big impact on this big storm comin up somewhere between Jan 15-23. I'm just barely within the white line which means 6-12"! charlestonlady, pumps, midatlantic and for those of you members who live in NC VA TN KY WV and northern GA ( including Atlanta) should see some snow. Here's a link on SCA on the front page there's this little extended outlook which is automaticlly moving up and shows a map. On how much snow are we going toget on that big winter storm!SCA extended winter outlook

i'm in shorts

By: tropicfreak, 7:26 PM GMT on January 06, 2007

Today's temps are supposed to reach 75! I'm in shorts and short sleeve shirts LOL! Do you call that january? That temperature breaks the record of the one in 1950 which was 73. For the rest of the month starting next week on monday we should feel more january like temps with highs in the mid upper forties to the lower fifties following with lows around freezing. The pattern should change somtime around mid-late Jan.

I don't see snow in the forecast. Chance of snow??

By: tropicfreak, 1:31 AM GMT on January 06, 2007

Alright here are some links for my local news stations and TWC.They ain't callin for snow in the forcast although on one of my local news stations has the 8-day forecast and next thurs it should be sunny then the next day which is Fri is partly cloudy By getting cloudier could lead to a potential of some snow! 8NEWS STORMTRACKER 8-DAY FORECAST TWC NBC12 FIRST WARNING WEATHER CBS6 STORMTRACKER

Finally a first winter storm!

By: tropicfreak, 10:56 PM GMT on January 02, 2007

Alright I know i've been talking and fussing about that I still haven't gotton a first snowfall but it's going to end! LOL!For you southern folks ( who live in southern WV, NC, and in some places of KY and TN plus VA) it has finally come! Weatherworks said on East Coast Winter weather's blog that we'll get some mixing (mostly freezing rain and snow) a week from this friday. The accumulations of the winter storms are unknown, but the info will come in soon. I've been dying and dying and dying for a first winter storm, and now it's here. For those of you who live in NYC of course haven't seen a first snowfall ethier you'll get some of it. I know how it feels. BRING ON THE SNOW!!!!!

Hope you have a good week

New Year blog party didn't go well will try to host one this afternoon.2006 memories.

By: tropicfreak, 5:00 PM GMT on January 01, 2007

Com'on guys I didn't want 50 I wanted 100+. I'll try to host one this afternoon. I went to home Depot and when I came out it was pouring like crazy! Last night the winds were blowing fast but the weather station said the speed was only 4 mph. I'll try to move it away from my house a little bit and will see what happens. 2006 brings me back memories of what happened that year. i watched abc world news and there were all these deaths and it all ended with the death of a former president, which is really wierd. I went on vacation to FL this summer. I got a digital camera for my birthday. got to go to Busch gardens europe many times. I even rode a coaster there. ( i'm not a coaster fan)
and rode the big bad wolf and pulled a muscle on my back because i wasn't keeping my head erect. but the sad part was one realitive of ours died in april. she lived in southhill about 50 or 60 miles from petersburg.Plus my cousin is in the military so he's going to Iraq sometime this winter.Speaking of winter, I've still haven't gotten any snow. hopefully i will sometime this month.

happy new year
