Fred Weakens; Raceday Forecast

By: tropicfreak, 1:52 PM GMT on September 12, 2009

Before we get to the tropics. Nascar is in town at Richmond International Raceway and unlike last year with Hanna, it will run as scheduled. The forecast for today and tonight looks nice as we will have partly sunny skies with highs in the lower 80s. There is a slight chance of a shower but that if it does, will happen at the chesapeake bay. Tonight at the start of the race will be at around 80, and when the checkered flag falls it will be at around 74. The lows will be at around 67. Tomorrow will be partly sunny with highs in the low 80s.

In the tropics

What was once major hurricane Fred has weakened to a weak TS with winds at around 45 mph and will pose no threat to land as it will move westward as a low. There is the possibility of the low kicking back up near the coastline down the road but we'll have to wait and see. Another area of low pressure along the Gulf coast has provided much much needed rain for drought-stricken S Texas but Upper level winds are not favorable for development. Another wave has emerged off the african coast, and some development is possible over the next few days. It is still days away from the islands so it will have plenty of time to develop.

Have a great weekend

TS Erika Dissapates;disturbance off Africa;Labor Day Forecast.

By: tropicfreak, 4:36 PM GMT on September 04, 2009

I hope you guys have had a great summer. The unofficial end of summer for much of the kids in the Richmond area will be Tuesday, and I will not be looking foreward to that so I will be savoring those final days of summer before I go to school on Tuesday. Back to torture. LOL But we have to get through the labor day weekend and it looks to be a good one. Today will be rather sunny with a few passing clouds with highs in the middle 80's. Tonight will be rather cool and if you're going on theat morning jog I suggest you bust out your light jacket or sweatshirt. Lows will be in the upper 50s so it will be nothing like earlier this week which by the way was very cool out on Mon and Tues. I hope you enjoyed it. Tomorrow will warm up rather quickly to the upper 80's with plenty of sunshine. Sat night will still be cool with lows around 60. Sun will be another nice day, pretty much like Sat except for a little more cloud cover. Sun night will be a tad warmer with lows in the mid 60s and for labor day looks nice with partly sunny skies with highs in the mid 80s with a very slight chance of a passing shower but most if not all of us should stay dry. Mon night will bring partly cloudy skies with lows of around 65. First day of school will be the same as Mon with a slight chance of a passing shower with highs in the mid 80s.

In the tropics, what was TS Erika has dissapated and continues to bring heavy rains to Puerto rico. The NHc has it <%30 chance of it redeveloping. A few models do redevelop this and take it up and along the east coast. We'll have to wait and see what happens. Another wave that emerged off africa Wed looks somewhat orgainized and convection has increased slowly and some slow development is possible over the next 2-3 days. The NHc hilights this in yellow.

I went to the OBX this summer down in hatteras and it was beautiful and so were the beaches. Happy Belly Ice Cream in Hatteras was the best I've ever tasted. It was hot at first part of the week around 90 but in the middle of the week it was very stormy and the lightnig was impressive offshore. I do have a few pics of the weather and the lighthouse and I will post them as soon as I can. Oh and by the way, DO NOT GO TO BUBBAS TOO BBQ IN AVON!!!!! Their BBQ is bland and fatty, their burgers are horrible and they microwave their hot dogs. The drink mix was way off and it took forever to get the food. You have to pay for refills.

Have a great labor day weekend'
