Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 9:58 AM EDT Sep. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this
evening...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through Monday
evening...

* waves and surf... seas 5 to 9 feet off the Palm Beach County
coast, with surf heights above 7 feet possible.

* Timing... through Monday evening.

* Impacts... life threatening rip currents will pose a hazard to
swimmers. People visiting the beach should not enter the surf.
Large breakers can knock you down and make you susceptible to
being caught in strong rip currents. Waves crashing across
piers and jetties can also make it difficult to stand or walk.
Minor beach erosion is possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area, producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.
