The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Jefferson County in southeastern Texas...
southwestern Newton County in southeastern Texas...
southern Hardin County in southeastern Texas...
Orange County in southeastern Texas...
southeastern Jasper County in southeastern Texas...

* until 915 am CDT Friday.

* At 911 PM CDT, reports from the media and local law enforcement
indicated that flood waters persist across much of coastal
southeast Texas as result of heavy rains over the past 24 hours.
Patchy light rain is expected to linger into the overnight hours
across the warned area, although additional accumulations are
expected to be minimal. However flood waters will continue to be
slow to recede.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Beaumont, Port Arthur, Nederland, Groves, Port Neches, Vidor,
Bridge City, Sour Lake, Nome, Deweyville, Central Gardens, Sabine
Pass, Hamshire, Mauriceville, Bevil Oaks, China, Rose City, Pine
Forest, Lakeview and Weiss Bluff.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Pine Island Bayou near Sour Lake.
* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 6:45 PM Thursday the stage was 32.7 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 35.3 feet by
tomorrow early afternoon then begin falling.
* Impact... at stages near 35.5 feet... water reaches the gage shelter
floor.
* Impact... at stages near 34.0 feet... water reaches homes along old
Sour Lake Road near the river.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Village Creek near Kountze.
* From Friday afternoon to Sunday morning... or until the warning is
cancelled.
* At 7:30 PM Thursday the stage was 9.6 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by tomorrow afternoon and
continue to rise to near 18.5 feet by Saturday morning.The river
will fall below flood stage by Saturday before midnight.
* Impact... at stages near 19.0 feet... water over Village Creek Road
bridge in Lumberton. Significant backwater flooding of homes and
Camp sites along the creek in the north side of Lumberton.
* Impact... at stages near 18.4 feet... the water will be at the low
chord of Highway 418.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Neches River at Neches River saltwater barrier.
* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 7:15 PM Thursday the stage was 5.7 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 4.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 8.2 feet by
Monday morning then begin falling.
* Impact... at stages near 8.0 feet... widespread flooding, especially
in northwest Orange County from Lake View downstream to the
saltwater barrier. Several homes and camps are flooded or
threatend.

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of southeast Texas, including the following areas,
Hardin, Jefferson, northern Jasper, northern Newton, Orange,
southern Jasper, southern Newton, and Tyler.

* Through this evening

* additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches of rain with isolated
higher amounts expected.

* Heavy rainfall that falls over areas that have received the
tremendous amounts from the last couple of days will produce
additional flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
