Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 2:40 AM MDT Sep. 23, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Tuesday morning...

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of south central Arizona and
southwest Arizona, including the following areas, in south
central Arizona, Aguila Valley, Apache Junction/Gold Canyon,
Buckeye/Avondale, Cave Creek/New River, central Phoenix, Deer
Valley, Dripping Springs, Fountain Hills/East Mesa,
Globe/Miami, Mazatzal Mountains, New River Mesa, north
Phoenix/Glendale, northwest Pinal County, Pinal/Superstition
Mountains, Rio Verde/Salt River, San Carlos,
Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee,
southeast Gila County, southeast valley/Queen Creek, Superior,
the East Valley of the Phoenix Metro area, the northwest
valley of the Phoenix Metro area, Tonopah Desert, Tonto Basin,
and west Pinal County. In southwest Arizona, central La Paz
County and Kofa.

* Through Tuesday morning

* deep tropical moisture will interact with a strong and
developing Pacific low pressure system west of Phoenix resulting
in very heavy rainfall across much of southwest and south
central Arizona. Peak rain rates will be well above one inch per
hour at times.

* Flash flooding will likely result in Road closures and cause area
washes to run heavily. Unprepared motorists could become trapped
within fast flowing washes necessitating water rescues. Water
levels can rapidly rise and flow into area homes and businesses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of washes, creeks and
other drainage areas is possible within the watch area. If you
are in the watch area, you should watch the weather and be
prepared to take immediate action should heavy rain and flooding
occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
