Watches & Warnings

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 1:59 PM PDT Oct. 23, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 5 am Thursday to 5 PM
PDT Friday for strong gusty winds and low humidity for
mountains... valleys... and inland Orange County...

* wind... areas of northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 55
mph developing late tonight and continuing through Thursday with
strongest gusts to 65 mph below the Cajon and San Gorgonio Pass,
near the coastal slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains, and
immediate west of the ridge tops of the San Diego County
mountains. Wind becoming east to northeast late Thursday night
into Friday with the stronger and more widespread winds below
the San Gorgonio Pass and in the San Diego County mountains and
valleys.

* Humidity... lowest daytime humidity in the single digits with
poor overnight recovery.

* Timing... winds strengthening overnight Wednesday into Thursday
morning. Northern areas will see peak winds Thursday morning,
with strongest winds in San Diego County occurring late Thursday
night as they shift to a more easterly direction. Winds
subsiding through the day Friday, however relative humidity
will remain very low.

* Outlook... very low humidity will continue into Saturday, but
with weaker and less widespread gusty winds. Overnight humidity
recovery will improve come Sunday. There is potential for
additional offshore to start the week, however confidence is
low at this time.

* Impacts... if fire ignition occurs, conditions will be
favorablefor extreme fire behavior and rapid growth which
would threaten life and property.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... .or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with
potential fire ignition sources.
